Pre-Diabetes Counseling
Type 2
diabetes is currently considered an epidemic in this country.
Because of the naturally progressive nature of the disease,
Pre-Diabetes is now considered a diagnosis. Extensive
research has shown that the risk of developing diabetes can be
reduced or virtually eliminated through lifestyle changes. We
are able to help people identify the changes they need to make in
order to live a healthy life.
Glucose
meters
Diabetes Educators are able to arrange for a meter at no cost and
teach patients to monitor their blood sugar at an individual
appointment.
Medication management
The diabetes educators (RNs and
dietitians) also communicate with physicians to insure quality
services and safe diabetes management. RNs are able to take
verbal orders from physicians for medication changes to help best
manage your diabetes.
Insulin pump
consultations
We can help you decide if an
insulin pump is a good option for managing your diabetes
and we can help in choosing a pump. We work closely with you
and your doctor to help you select a pump, educate you in using an
insulin pump and help you fine tune your pump usage to optimize
your blood sugar control.
Continuous Glucose Monitoring
We offer
the latest technology in blood sugar management. We now have a
continuous blood glucose monitor (CGMS) to closely trend your
ever-changing blood sugar values throughout the day. We are able to
obtain 3-4 days worth of continuous blood glucose information with
a small monitor that is worn with a sensor placed just under the
skin. This information can lead to medication and lifestyle
changes. This is another way to help optimize your blood sugar
control.
Community
Programs
Diabetes Services conducts
numerous blood glucose screenings in the community each year.
Counseling is always available at these screenings. Check the
community calendar.
Exercise programs, meditation classes, and a walking program with
free pedometers are some of the community offerings this past
year.
