X-ray
St.
Mary's offers X-ray services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
X-rays include extremities (hands, fingers, arms, legs, toes,
feet), back, spine, abdomen, chest, lung, pelvis, neck and head. We
are one of the few hospitals in the Bay Area who offers three-foot
long X-ray films for the spine.
Please let your doctor and/or radiology staff
know if you might be pregnant for any and all radiology services
you obtain.
Fluoroscopy
Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for special studies
that require a technique that offers immediate, serial images for
delicate procedures such as interventional procedures,
catheterizations, insertions of lines and other procedures.
Magnetic Resonance
Imaging (MRI )
St. Mary's has a newly-upgraded, high-field MRI which provides high
resolution imaging quality to conduct advanced strobe imaging,
cardiac, breast, spine, abdominal, gynecological, wrist,
contrast-enhanced angiographies and other
studies.
In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a magnet linked to a computer
creates detailed pictures of areas inside the body without the use
of radiation. Each MRI produces hundreds of images from
side-to-side, top-to-bottom, and front-to-back. The images are then
interpreted by a radiologist. This test is non-invasive and
painless.
Computerized
Tomography (CT)
A technique in which a scanner is used to attain a series of detail
visualizations. The procedure is painless and non-invasive.
Ultrasound
St.
Mary's has several state-of-the-art ultrasound machines that are
used to study the deep structures of the body including the pelvis,
breast, abdomen and gallbladder. Ultrasound, also called
sonography, is an imaging technique in which high-frequency sound
waves that cannot be heard by humans are bounced off tissues and
internal organs. Their echoes produce a picture called a sonogram.
This is a non-invasive, painless procedure. Generally a
patient will drink water prior to the study. When the appointment
is scheduled, the clinician will instruct you on how to prepare for
this study.
Mammography
A
mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breast using a low dose X-ray
technique to visualize the internal structure of the breast used to
detect, diagnose and characterize breast tumors. It uses a
dedicated X-ray machine specifically designed for that
purpose. Our program is accredited and we perform
ongoing quality analyses to ensure accurate results.
Interventional
Radiology
St. Mary's has skilled
and leading-edge interventional radiologists who perform the most
delicate procedures under the guidance of fluoroscopy (a technique
that provides immediate serial images) and who are knowledgeable
about new techniques. Our interventional radiologists are
expert at inserting stents, shunts and catheters to help restore
patient's blood flow.
