Acute Physical Rehabilitation
Marc Wakasa, M.D.
Medical Director


Dr. Wakasa was named medical director of Rehabilitation Medical Services at St. Mary's Medical Center in July 2003. Dr. Wakasa directs the 36-bed acute rehabilitation inpatient unit and provides clinical and administrative supervision of the Ben Berman Outpatient Rehabilitation Center. He is a clinical instructor with the Stanford University Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program.

Well-known in the community, Dr. Wakasa gives frequent lectures on spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and rehabilitation from stroke. He has also been a featured columnist for rock-climbing and women's fitness websites, and has written numerous articles and the rehabilitation chapter in the Textbook of Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Wakasa received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, and completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford University’s School of Medicine. Board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Wakasa has been a practicing physiatrist at St. Mary's Medical Center since July 1997.
