Visiting Hours & Guidelines

Visiting Hours and Guidelines

Visitors can be good medicine for patients. Family members and friends are welcome to visit. Patient care is our primary concern and, in order to enhance the quality of care, visiting hours and rules have been established. We provide a Welcome Guide for patients and visitors, which you can obtain at the information desk on the main floor. If you need additional information, please check with the nurse on the unit or call (415) 668-1000.

Helpful Tips:

  • General visiting hours are from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., daily. We ask visitors to adhere to these hours so our patients may get the rest needed to promote healing.
  • Please discuss any special needs you may have regarding visiting hours with the nurse manager of the patient's unit.
  • Young children visiting a loved one in the hospital may be agitated and frightened by what they see. Please keep them in the patient's room and always accompanied by an adult.
  • A social worker or case manager is available to you. They can address any special needs our patients or their family may have with discharge planning or community resources. Please ask the floor nurse to contact them for you.
  • To protect our patient's privacy and safety, visitors may be asked to leave the room temporarily during special procedures, emergency situations and/or physician visits.
  • For the safety of our patients we ask that you turn your cell phone off before entering a nursing unit.

ICU Visitors:

  • ICU visits are limited to immediate family and designated friends for 5 to15 minutes per hour. Please check-in with the nurse before entering the unit.
  • No children under age 8 are allowed in the ICU.
  • Cell phones are not allowed in the ICU, not only because they can disrupt hospital monitors, but it can also disturb critically-ill patients.
