The McAuley Institute at St. Mary's Medical Center provides comprehensive mental health treatment to adolescents and their families.

Compassionate care for kids in crisis

We offer the most comprehensive adolescent mental health assessment and treatment services in the Bay Area.  Additionally, we operate the only dedicated adolescent inpatient program in San Francisco.

We treat adolescents in psychiatric crisis, as well as those with long-term mental health challenges. By working directly with patients and their families, we strive to educate, provide alternative coping strategies and help patients reach their potential.

Our goal is to help young people regain a sense of stability and self-sufficiency in their lives.

Structured therapeutic settings

For the past 50 years, the McAuley Institute has been providing comprehensive evaluation and an acute treatment setting for adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18. We offer a secure Inpatient Program and a Day Treatment Center. Because we operate within a medical center, we can also address the complex needs of patients with combined medical and psychiatric problems.

By offering a wide continuum of services, the McAuley Institute can take adolescents from a state of acute need through reintegration into their community.

We provide a number of treatment modalities:
  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Milieu therapy
  • Psychological testing
  • Medication evaluation and education
  • Psycho-education
