The Nuclear Medicine Department performs both
diagnostic intervention (imaging and function studies) by
administering tracer amounts of radioactive material and then
imaging the patient or quantifying the amount of radioactive
material present in a given organ or sample. The results of
the studies are then interpreted by the Nuclear Medicine physician
and a report is generated. Imaging is used by oncologist to
diagnosis metastatic disease, by orthopedist to diagnosis fractures
and osteomyelitis, and by cardiologist to diagnosis coronary artery
disease.
The Department also provides therapeutic
intervention using therapeutic doses of radioactive material.
The Nuclear Medicine physician informs and advises the patient on
radiation safety before the dose is administered and
follows-up with the patient's referring physician.
The Nuclear Medicine Department offers full
range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The
diagnostic procedures consist of planar, dynamic, whole body and
SPECT imaging.
