Pain Management
Almost all patients who come to the Spine
Center complain of pain. Beginning with the initial evaluation of
each patient, our physicians employ their considerable expertise in
the use of medications, blocks, physical treatments, and surgeries
to alleviate pain.
For patients with more difficult pain
problems, the Spine Center has physicians and registered nurses who
are specially trained in medication management to assist with pre-
and postoperative pain control and chronic pain management. The
Spine Center physician will coordinate patient care with any other
physician involved in the patient’s treatment.
Spinal
Blocks
Spinal block injections can be helpful as a tool for both diagnosis
and treatment. Using fluoroscopic guidance, blocks of the cervical,
thoracic, and lumbar spine can decrease pain and provide a window
of opportunity for improving flexibility and strength. The Spine
Center physicians and physical therapists coordinate their
treatment programs to ensure the most appropriate timing for a
block.
Our nursing staff assists with patient
education in pain management before and after surgeries, as well as
after spinal injections.
