Medical Director -
Marc Wakasa, MD is the Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services and the Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at St. Mary's Medical Center. He is a clinical instructor with the Stanford University Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program and a member of the St. Mary’s Medical Executive Committee. Well-known in the community, Dr. Wakasa is the recipient of Stanford University’s James Thompson Humanitarian Award in rehabilitation medicine. He also wrote the rehabilitation chapter for cranial trauma in the “Textbook of Neurological Surgery” and is co-author of the Spinal Cord Injury section on the website, UptoDate.com. Dr. Wakasa received his medical degree from Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Chicago and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Stanford University. Board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, Dr. Wakasa has been a practicing physiatrist at St. Mary's Medical Center since 1997.

St. Mary’s Acute Rehab department also consists of a team of internal medicine doctors who are dedicated to ensuring your medical recovery. These physicians work in collaboration with our Medical Director and are experts in taking care of most complex patients. According to a national data base of all rehab facilities in the nation our rehab unit treats some of the most complex patients.

4. Our High Level of Experience: The Rehab Department at St. Mary’s Medical Center has been in existence for more than 50 years. At St. Mary’s Acute Rehab unit you will be cared for by a highly experienced team. Many of our rehabilitation nurses and therapists have more than 25 years of experience on rehab. Most of our therapists hold advanced certifications in the area of their practice.
