Meet our Wound Care Specialists





Education: Dr. Young received his medical degree from Yale School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in plastic surgery at UCSF.

Appointments: Medical Director, St. Mary’s Advanced Wound Healing – Amputation Prevention Center

Special Interests: Wound healing, burns, infections, hand surgery and microsurgery




Education: Dr. Conte earned a medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. He completed a surgical residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and vascular surgery training as a John Homan's Fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School.

Appointments: Chief, Amputation Prevention Center – St. Mary’s Medical Center; Chief-Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery – UCSF

Special Interests: Diseases of the aorta and its major branches, aneurysms, carotid artery disease and peripheral artery disease (PAD). Treatment of diabetic vascular disease, performing complex revascularization to preserve limb function and prevent amputation.





Education: Dr. Battula received her medical degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine, and completed her podiatric residency at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Hayward, CA.

Education: Dr. Hansen received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his residency as well as a research fellowship at UCSF. He also completed a hand and microsurgery fellowship at UCLA Medical Center.

Special Interests: Hand and microvascular surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery, wound healing, lower extremity reconstruction and general plastic/cosmetic surgery




Education: Dr. Lee received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the University of Chicago, followed by a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the Buncke Clinic, San Francisco.

Appointments: Director of Microsurgery UCSF

Special Interests: Complex upper/ lower extremity reconstruction, breast reconstruction using the DIEP and perforator flaps, varicose vein laser treatment, peripheral nerve surgery and microsurgery, wound care and soft tissue reconstruction.

Education: Dr. Murray received his medical degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He completed his internship at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco, followed by a surgical residency at St. Louis University Group of Hospitals in St. Louis.

Education: Dr. Reyzelman received his medical degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his podiatry residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Limb salvage, chronic non-healing wounds of the lower extremity, lower extremity complications of diabetes and prevention of amputation




Education:   Dr. James W. Stavosky, DPM Dr. Stavosky received his medical degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine, where he also completed his podiatric residency.

Appointments: Chief, Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, Seton Medical Center




Education: Dr. Traynor received his medical degree from the California School of Podiatric Medicine, where he is now a member of the clinical faculty. He completed his residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he was the 2010 Resident of the Year, and Chief Podiatry Resident.

Special Interests:
Dr. Traynor is interested in foot and ankle trauma, diabetic wound care and reconstruction. He enjoys travel and scuba diving, and is a car enthusiast. 


 

Education: Dr. Vartanian graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelors degree in Biology and then went on to Saint Louis University for his medical education. He finished his general surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in 2010. Dr. Vartanian completed the fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and is now on faculty at UCSF.

Special Interests:
Dr. Vartanian is interested in comparing the effectiveness of endovascular treatments for peripheral arterial disease. By understanding the safety, effectiveness, and cost of each intervention, the aim of the research is to assist patients and clinicians in making informed decisions about treatment options.




Education: Dr. Vea received her medical degree from UC Davis School of Medicine. She completed her internship and a general surgery residency at UCSF - East Bay in Oakland, where she was also chief resident. She also completed a vascular surgery fellowship at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, N. J.

Special Interests:
Open vascular surgery, arterial and venous disorders, minimally invasive endovascular surgery and endovenous radiofrequency of varicose veins
